Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu
Kefas has hosted delegation from the National Hydro-electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) on a courtesy visit led by the Managing Director, Saidu Yelwa.
Recieving the visitors at the TY Danjuma House, Jalinjgo on Thursday, Dr. Kefas expressed the commitments of his Administration to work closely with the Commission to accelerate development across Taraba State.
He described Taraba State as one of critical assets of Nigeria in terms of energy resources which would boost the transformation of the State if effectively harnest.
The Governor noted that the visit by the officials of the Commission was timely as it would enable them to better understand the realities on the ground and be conversant with the development needs of the State.
Governor Kefas drew the attention of the Commission to the poor State of School infrastructure in Northern Nigeria and called on the Commission to support efforts towards addressing the challenges.
“Lack of adequate Infrastructure in our Schools informed our decision to declare free education in secondary and primary schools in Taraba State and embarked on the rehabilitation and upgrade of educational institutions, in addition, we created a template for the establishment of Smart Schools across Taraba State,” the Governor said.
Governor Kefas also appreciated the commission for its interventions and continued support to the Taraba State Government.
Earlier, the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Yelwa, said the visit was significant, because development is best achieved when governments work together through dialogue, mutual respect, and shared purposes.
The Managing Director thanked the Taraba State Government for the warm reception and reaffirmed the commitment of the Commission to the people of the state.
Yelwa explained that the visit was part of an ongoing tour of newly admitted member states of the Commission, comprising Kaduna, Taraba, Gombe, and Nasarawa states which were
formally admitted into the commission in June 2023 under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
He noted that N-HYPPADEC recognises the environmental and social burdens borne by communities hosting hydroelectric power facilities and the need for focused attention, protection, and investment.
