Taraba Governor Kefas presents 2024 ‘Budget of moving forward’ to state house of assembly

Governor Kefas lays the budget to the assembly

Governor of Taraba State Dr Agbu Kefas has presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N311.4 billion to the Taraba State House of Assembly.

In the budget tagged “Budget of Moving forward,” Education has the highest allocation of N43.2 billion followed by health which has N33.1 billion.

64.1 percent of the total budget amounting to N199.7 billion is for Capital Expenditure while the sum of N111.6 billion which is 35.9 percent of the budget was estimated for Recurrent Expenditure.

Presenting the budget, the Governor said the 2024 estimates was aim at fostering sustainable growth in social, rural and infrastructure development, agriculture, governance, and public financial management.

Kefas noted that education is the bedrock of any progressive society that is why a substantial amount of the 2024 budget is dedicated to the education sector.

“We aim to enhance infrastructure in schools, improve teachers training, and invest in educational technology to ensure our youth receive the best possible education in the state”, the Governor added.

He said because of the concerned by his administration to the well-being of the citizens significant allocations in the budget were made to strengthen the health care system, improve facilities, and enhance the welfare of healthcare professionals and expressed his commitment to ensuring accessible, affordable and quality healthcare services for all Tarabans.

On the performance of the 2023 budget, Governor Kefas said the 13.9 percent of the total receipt went for recurrent expenditure and 12.3 percent was spent on recurrent expenditure while the total performance of the budget stood at 26.2 percent far below the expected 75 percent.

Earlier in his remarks, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. John Kizito Bonzena assured the Governor of the speedy consideration of the appropriation bill which will commence in earnest and be given necessary attention by the legislators.
