Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property while advancing the welfare of every citizen.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Wukari, the Governor recalled that upon assumption of office, he made a solemn promise to prioritize security, stressing that the safety of citizens remains his foremost responsibility.
He further emphasized that education is his second major priority, vowing that no child in Taraba State will be left behind.
According to him, the free education policy introduced by his administration not only guarantees tuition-free schooling but also covers NECO and WAEC examination fees.
In addition, tuition fees in tertiary institutions have been slashed to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians.
Governor Kefas admitted that he inherited widespread infrastructural decay in schools, describing many of the facilities as “nothing to write home about.”
He assured that his government has already embarked on rebuilding and modernizing educational infrastructure to provide a conducive learning environment.
On workers’ welfare, the Governor noted that he met a backlog of unpaid salaries, gratuities, and pensions on assumption of office.
He explained that reforms have since been introduced within the civil service to address these challenges.
He also revealed that even his office was initially affected by the lack of adequate facilities, underscoring the urgency of the reforms.
Highlighting the broader development agenda, Governor Kefas stated that for the first time since the creation of Taraba State in 1991, his administration has produced a comprehensive master plan to guide sustainable growth across all sectors.
He acknowledged the deplorable state of many roads in the state but assured citizens that road construction and rehabilitation are a key priority.
He announced that beginning this October, his administration will commence new road projects alongside empowerment programmes to improve livelihoods.
The Governor’s remarks were applauded by dignitaries present, including former Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Armayau Dauda; Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mark Useni; and the Aku Uka, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Ishaku Adda Ali.
They commended his developmental strides and the courage to engage citizens directly through such interactive forums.
Other speakers at the event also highlighted empowerment initiatives and the need to add value to agricultural products as major areas requiring government attention.
