Security agencies in the country have been urged to take prompt action to checkmate the worsening security situation in Taraba State to prevent it from going out of control.
This is on the hills of the gruesome killing of 16 villagers and injuring of many others at Garin Kuka and Gidado in Gunduma District of Mutum-Biyu Chiefdom in Gassol Local Government Area of the state on Friday.
The bandits were also said to have abducted an unknown number of residents of the two communities.
The call for a robust security presence in the state was made by Hon. Danladi Baido, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the 2023 governorship election in the state on Monday.
This was contained in a statement by Anthony Maliki, Media Assistant to Hon. Danladi Baido, Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Taraba State to Apex News Exclusive.
He expressed deep concern over the recent incidences of attacks around the state especially those of Nyifiye, Sabongida Kpasimbe and Manya in Takum Local Government Area where many were killed and about 120, 000 persons displaced.
The governorship hopeful also expressed dismay over attacks around Lassandi in Jalingo, the state capital where a resident was killed and another on the resident of a medical doctor behind the Catholic Cathedral.
Hon. Baido urged the Police, Military and other security agencies to take immediate and proactive actions to prevent the rising insecurity into a monster that would be difficult to check in future.
While sympathizing with families, friends and community leaders over the mindless attack, the governorship candidate noted that the call for a strong security presence cannot be left to chance anymore.
He explained that the time for action is now especially as the 2023 electioneering campaigns gets under way soon to prevent bandits from taking advantage to cause more mayhem.
