Taraba NLC lauds Governor Kefas for approving minimum wage

The decision of state governor Dr. Agbu Kefas to approve payment of N70,000 new minimum wage starting from November ending has been commended by Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state.
The state labour chairman, Comrd. Peter Jediel who made the remarks while speaking with our correspondents in Jalingo, Thursday lauded the governor for adhering strictly to his promises, pointing out that the chief executive of the state remains a man of his words and has shown commitment that he has Taraba workers and state at heart.
The labour boss who spoke through the secretary of the congress Comrd. Buba Wadumayi Adamu urged workers to show commitment and seriousness in their primary duties in order to complement the efforts of governor Kefas in that direction.
Comrd. Jediel recalled that with the current minimum wage of N70,000 from the lowest GL 1 staff then receiving N30,000, it is expected that workers should put in their best to justify the new minimum increase approved by the state government.
According to the state labour boss, this is a welcome development that should not be taken for granted and thanked governor Kefas administration for joining the league of other state governors that had approved and implemented the new wage bill.
He however reiterated that Taraba labour upto date has some pending demands such as yearly increment, promotion of staff yet to be implemented for 3 years, backlog of union dues withheld by the last administration for over four months and urged governor Kefas to as matter of urgency come for their rescue.
Other setbacks within the union and begging for attention of governor Agbu Kefas includes PAYE (Pay-as-you-earn)and palliative which he said will reduce the hardship faced by civil servants to the barest minimum.
Recall that the state governor Dr. Agbu Kefas on Tuesday approved sum of N70,000 as minimum wage for state workers.
The development which was made public by head of civil service (HOS) in the state Paul Maigida Tino in a statement released on Tuesday November 14 said in line with present administration’s commitment to yearning and aspiration of workers, the governor have approved the above sum for the civil servant starting from November ending 2024, the statement stated
