The Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Taraba State has strongly disassociated itself from series of unofficial protests and press statements by a section of pensioners who tagged themselves as “Concerned Pensioners” in the State.
In statement signed by the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Kefas Katan and Secretary Comrade Paul A. Tyav, the Union said those organizing the protests and issuing the press statements have no locus-standi to embark on such activities as they are not State Officials of the NUP, not Officials of the Local branches in their respective Loca Governorship nor are they delegates of the Union who can vote and be voted for.
The statement noted that the so-called “Concerned Pensioners” are just out to dent the good Image of the Union in the face of the Public and weakening it’s bargain strength as well as attempting to bring the name of the NUP in Taraba State to disrepute.
It says that while state officials of the Union is already on the bargain tabe with the appriate quarters to get all the problems of Pensioners solved the “Concerned Pensioners” are trying to rubbish the efforts of the Union and denting the State Officials of the Union in the face of the State Government and all the retirees in Taraba State to make it look as if the State Officials are the ones organizing these unwarranted protests and press statements and for Pensioners to believe that the state Officials are not doing anything to alleviate their problems while in reality the Union has been doing it best.
The Union therefore describes such unofficial protests and press statements by any member or group of members under any guise as null and void and by these acts the organizers are deemed to have committed gravious offences against the Corporate existence of the Union and are liable to be punished in line with the provision of the NUP Constitution.
The statement again strongly warns leaders of so-called “Concerned Pensioners” to stop parading and impersonating as the state officials of the union comprising “Silas Jafta impersonating to be the State Chairman, Pastor Yohanna Ajiya impersonating as the State Secretary as well as Mohamned Nagoggo Gassol, Bakari Ahmed Karim, Abubakar Iliyas, Isa Sambo, Malle Hamma, Bitrus Awoshiri, Emmanuel Baleri and Aliyu Dakare as subsequent acts of this nature will not be tolerated. It appeals to Governor Darius Dickson lshaku to disregard any unofficial protests and press statements by any member or section of Pensioners in the State not organized or released by the State officials of the Union and go on to enroll all genuine retirees that are yet to be pay rolled and commence the process of payment of gratuities and other benefits to Pensioners that are yet to be implemented in Taraba State as he promised during his engagement with the State Chairman and other officials of the union in the state.
The union expresses it’s loyalty to the State Government saying it will continue to tow the path of dialogue in seeking for remedy to all the issues affecting pensioners in Taraba State.
