Taraba residents live in fear over increasing siege by kidnappers, bandits

Kidnapping and banditry are increasing daily in many local government areas of Taraba State putting the people on edge.
Apex News Exclusive gathered that worse areas affected are Yorro, Bali, Lau, Ardo Kola and Jalingo local governments.
Just on Monday night December 18, 2023, 22 persons were abducted in Pupule of Yorro Local Government Area including the paramount ruler of Kwaji Chiefdom, Alhaji Umaru Abubakar Buba Nyala and a pregnant woman.
Also recently, many people were abducted Pupule while travellers through the Zing-Pupule-Mararraba highway were Abducted.
Also in Mararraban Kunini in Lau Local Government Area, seven out of the 15 persons recently kidnapped but released after paying various ransom while the remaining eight are still with their captives.
In Abbare a nursing mother and wife to the new councillor of the ward in the local government were also kidnaped.
An Islamic scholar, Ustaz Zakari Tela, who was kidnapped with his family along Numan-Jalingo road, regained his freedom on Saturday while his family are still being held by the abductors and recently two commercial vehicles plying the road were attacked by bandits and two occupants were killed in the process.
The Numan-Jalingo road has been a haven for criminals for quite a long time now because of the bad condition of the road.
In Bali Local Government Area, traders going to Maihula market including truck pushers were also recently abducted and had to ‘settled’ the kidnappers before they were released.
The situation is the same in Jalingo and Ardo Kola local government areas.
A trend of banditry that is becoming worrisome in Jalingo, the state capital, is the disappearance of people.
On Saturday, December 16, 2023, an Islamic scholar, Malam Salisu Donga of Malam Joda area and Babangida Zakari of Kofan Sarkin Noma, both in Jalingo left home for their daily routine but were reported missing.
Speaking to Apex News Exclusive in Jalingo on the increasing insecurity in Taraba State, Ward Head of Malam Joda Sintsli “B” Jalingo Bashir Joda appealed to the State Government to take proactive measures to safe guard the lives and prosperity of the citizens and urged security agents to increase their efforts in fighting crime.
Police Public Relations Officer, Taraba State Command, SP Usman Abdullahi confirmed the report saying investigation is ongoing but no arrest was made.
