Taraba set to establish waste recycling industry

Taraba State Government is set to establish a waste recycling Industry for effective waste management and turning waste to wealth.

To this end, Sector Lead, a firm which specializes in waste recycling has arrived Jalingo, the State Capital and inspected various waste dumping site, assess the characteristics of the waste management system and types of waste to determine the type of recycling facility suitable for the state.

The team inspected waste dumping sites at the outskirts of Jalingo, the State Capital in Pantinapu, Mile Six, Roadblock, Runde and Sibre, the proposed site of the recycling plant.

Commenting on the the inspection of the dump sites, Taraba State Commissioner for Waste Management, Shonzen Bernard, said the team was in the state to assess the nature of waste to know the kind of recycling plant they will set up
and attributed the development to the determination of Governor Dr. Agbu kefas to convert waste into wealth in Taraba State.

“The company is here to support the good intention of the Government by assessing dump sites and the nature of waste generated so that it will be processed by into useful products,” the Commissioner noted.

Shozen disclosed that the Ministry of Waste Management has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sector Lead in collaboration with the State Ministry of Environment to facilitate the initiative.

Technical Counsel of Sector Lead, Engineer Victor Dogo, said their mission to the state was to determined the quantity, quality and type of waste and see how they will be harnessed to keep the environment clean, set goal objectives for the climate change, and improving the general well being of the town by a way of handling, managing and processing the waste to improve the living standard and create wealth.

He said their visit has provided first hand information about the character of waste in the state which will enable the firm to come up with a plan and strategy towards implementation of the recycling plan in the State.

“Our goal is to improve the overall of Jalingo by managing and processing waste responsively, this visit is to get first hand information of the types of waste generated here to develop strategic and actionable plans fo implementation,” Dogo said.
