Taraba to invite investors to invigorate Mambilla Beverages Limited

The Taraba State Government has finalized arrangement to invite private investors to evaluate and collaborate with the Mambilla Beverages Limited in Kakara, Sardauna Local Government Area to reinvigorate the Company.
The State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas who disclosed this during his visit to the largest Beverages Company in West Africa producers of Highland and Green tea said he will soon lead a team to Kenya to bring in experts and investors to modernize the company to meet the growing local demands for its tea and for export which
is necessary as two other tea Companies have been established in Nguroje and Maisamari on the Plateau, posing a competitive challenge to the Kakara Beverages Company.
The Governor however expressed concern over the erosion bevelling the plantation in the Company due to global warming and climate change and pledged to provide new tractors for the company from the stock purchased by the State Government to be paid by the Company.
Managing Director of the Company, Mr. Timothy Fanya said obsolete machines and equipment, encroachment by local farmers and herders, and uprooting of its tea plants as the major challenges of the Company and expressed the urgent need for the dredging of about 50 hectares of tea plantation affected by silting saying that the company plans to diversify into the cultivation and processing of coffee and economic trees.
Earlier, the Governor stopover at Segem Dam and examined the 400 kilowatts twin turbines mini Hydro Electricity Generation Company supplying power to the tea factory.
During the visit, the governor toured the company, observed tea processing and packaging procedures and planted a tree.
