Teacher recruitment: Governor Sule, approves 6,200 primary schools teachers in Nasarawa

In a bid to tackle shortage of primary schools teachers and to improve on standards of education; Nasarawa state governor Abdullahi Sule, has approved the recruitment of 6,200 qualified teachers for both the primary and secondary schools across the 13 local government areas of the state.
The Senior Special Assistant to the to governor Abdullahi Sule, on Public affairs, Peter Ahemba, made the revelation during the bi-monthly press conference held in Lafia the Nasarawa state capital.
He explained that the process was in furtherance to governor Abdullahi Sule’s unwavering commitment to the standards of education and encourage learning in the state.
Ahemba narrated that 4,700 teachers will be deployed to primary schools under the State Universal Basic Education Board, while the remaining 1,500 will be assigned to secondary schools across the state.
He stated that the recruitment process will be transparent and strictly merit-based, adding that this would build public confidence and achieving the aim and objectives in the education sector.
According to SSA, arrangements have reached 85 percent conclusion for the shortlisted names of the successful applicants who will be employed into the public primary school in the state.
His words, “As I speaks the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board has forwarded the names of successful applicants to the state’s ministry of education for vetting to ensure that the right thing is done.”
He, however, maintained that the moved by governor Abdullahi Sule’s was born out of his desire commitment in ensuring that that pupils are giving best standard of education in the State.
Ahemba, further posited that the governor having paid the counterpart fund to State Universal Basic Education Board, contracts have been awarded for the construction, renovation, and procurement of non teaching and teaching materials to the public primary school across the state.
He, therefore, disclosed that the contractors have been mobilised to the site in order to speed the process of the work.
Speaking on the recent security problems in the region, Ahemba averted that following attacks by suspected herdsmen on Yelwata Community in Benue State, several residents from border communities between Benue and Nasarawa fled their homes and are currently taking refuge in public primary schools within Keana Local Government Area.
He pointed out that the Nasarawa and Benue State Governments, in conjunction with security agencies, are working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of the displaced persons to their communities, so that academic activities in affected schools can resume without further disruption.
Our correspondent reports that in an effort to gives quality education to citizens, governor Sule, had recently approved the employment of 1, 500 secondary school teachers in the state.
Our correspondent also reports that the Nasarawa State Government has delivered relief materials to the internally displaced persons (IDPs), in various camps across the area.
