Tension as continuous kidnapping in Taraba worry residents

By Yusuf Salihu Sansani, Jalingo

Kidnapping has continued unabated in Taraba State in spite of the collaboration efforts of the Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas with various security agencies to fight crime.

Recently, the Chief of Kwaji, a Second Class Paramount ruler, Alhaji Umaru Buba Nyala in Yorro Local Government Area of the state with 20 of his subjects were kidnapped.

Although the Chief, his wife and the Imam of the town regained their freedom, the remaining 18 victims including his palace guards and a pastor are still in captivity.

As if that was not enough, barely three days after that episode, six persons were kidnapped in Dila village of the local government including a former Vice Chairman of the Local Government Area, Hon Ishaya Dimas Dila.

In Kunini area of the neighbouring Lau Local Government Area where 15 persons were kidnapped less than a week ago, Kidnappers shot and wounded 2 persons and abducted eight others in the early hours of Sunday but later released the only woman among the victims.

Majority of Taraba residents who bared their minds on the security challenges bedeviling the state, said although Governor, Dr. Kefas has made frantic efforts by seeking collaboration with different security agencies in fighting the menace more need to be done because the bandits proved to be more stronger than all the security operatives.
