There is palpable tension in Gurara local government area of Niger state over the refusal of the State Governor to swear in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)’s chairmanship candidate as the chairman of the council as ordered by a Minna High Court.
The High Court 6 of Justice Maimuna Abubakar has ruled in case brought before it by an APC member Saudaki Abubakar challenging the emergence of Yusuf Waili as the candidate of APC in a pre -election matter concerning Gurara local government area primary election.
The court averred that the process for the consensus candidate as option for emergence of the Chairmanship candidate was not followed thus annulled the APC candidate.
The court ruled also that the candidate that came second should be sworn in as the chairman, therein awarded the chairmanship seat to the NNPP candidate Abdulhalim Abubakar and should be sworn in as the chairman of the council.
In contravention to the court’s Judgement, Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello refused to swear in Hon Abdulhalim as the chairman of Gurara local government council.
Tongues are wagging that the governor is taking sides with Waili who was his SSA schedule, alleging that it is because he knew so many secrets about the governor.
Some pundits are wondering why the Governor who had complied with the ruling about Magama local government without delay decided to delay that of Gurara.
A Civil right activist, Mohammed Khalil said “it is sad the governor wants to spoil his record at exit point by not complying with court Judgement.
“I advise him to immediately swear in the NNPP Chairmanship candidate who has already been given certificate of return,” he added.
