Though among confronted with insecurity in North-East, Bauchi remains no-go area for criminals – Police Command declares

Bauchi State Police Command has declared that though the state is one of the North Eastern states in the country, which is confronted with numerous security challenges such as Kidnapping, Armed Banditry, Cattle Rustling, thuggery, Rape and other manifestation of violent crimes, it remains a no-go area for criminals and criminality.
The Command in a press release signed by the PPRO, SP Ahmed Wakili stated that the location of Lame Burra forest in Ningi L.G.A, Balmo forest in Gajuwa L.G.A, Yuda and Mundu, Panshanu and Megemu forest in Toro L.G.A and Yankari Games Reserve in Alkaleri L.G.A provide a cover for criminal elements who perpetrate heinous crimes.
It however stated that recently there was proactive measures taken by the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun S. Alabi through robust synergy with state Government and other security agencies; Vigilante groups; Religious/Traditional institution; youths and other stakeholders which has made the state to be enjoying relative peace.
The synergy has led to the Arrest of criminal elements before, during and after commission of offences in the fight against crime and criminality in Bauchi State with sustained operations, Intelligent led community-policing engagements and other crime fighting strategies.
The release further contained that the Command has with earnest professionalism continued to execute its mandate, and made remarkable achievements in the course of policing the state as a result of strategies under the guidance and directives of the Commissioner of Police.
Consequently, the Command within the last 6 months from 8th March 2021 to date recorded a total of 221 cases, and arrested 352 suspects in connection to various crimes committed within and outside the State.
The Command recorded 42 cases of Armed Robbery while 115 suspects were arrested in connection with the cases just as 18 cases of Kidnapping with 29 suspects were arrested in connection with the cases, also, 15 Kidnapped victims were rescued from the Kidnappers.
The Command also recorded 59 cases of Rape with 69 suspects arrested in connection with the cases; 35 cases of Culpable Homicide with 66 suspects arrested in connection with the cases while 7 cases of Attempt to Commit Homicide with 5 suspects arrested in connection with the cases.
The Command further recorded 35 cases of Theft which led to the arrest of 49 suspects and 25 cases of other offence with 19 suspects arrested in connection with the cases, subsequently, Lethal weapons were mopped-up from unlicensed individuals as crime preventive measures during which 88 firearms and 6,460 ammunition were recovered.
Also recovered during the mopped up are 25) AK-47 rifle; 1 Locally made SMG 1SMG: 1 Locally made Fabricated AK47; 1 English Barretta and 1 Magazine ; P/Barretta; 29 Rusted/unserviceable locally made P/catridges; 27 Rusted/unserviceable locally made revolver and 1Locally made Dane Gun.
The recovered mopped up ammunition are 874 7.6mm; 5022 5.56mm; 113 9X19mm; 274 62.7mm; 177 38mm and 87 Blank while recovered arms are 5 Dane Gun; 3 Locally made single Barrel Gun; 3 Locally made revolver pistol and 6 Locally made pistol.
Still during the period under review, the Command recovered 1 Golf salon motor-vehicle and One Toyota Corolla Motor-vehicle as well as 19 different Motorcycles.
The Command also recovered 109 rustled cows and 74 sheep while the sum of N 907,760.00 and 11500 CFA were recovered from the suspects arrested.
The OFFENSIVE WEAPONS RECOVERED include 117 Cutlasses, 7 sticks, 6 machetes and 8 knives as well as 40 mobile phones of different models, 4 plasma TV sets and 3 Laptops.
The Command stated that, “It is pertinent to emphasize here that these aforementioned successes were made possible through information availed to the Police from members of the public, who as partners in progress with the Nigeria Police share our desires and aspirations to enable a safe and secure environment for all residents in the State”.
“The Command has put in place crime preventive measures which includes: visibility policing, community partnership, constant raids of black spots, regular foot and vehicular patrols, surveillance on buildings and vulnerable areas, stop and search, and intelligence led policing through partnership with sister agencies and other non-governmental organizations in order to nip in the bud, all forms of crime and criminality and also to flush out their hideouts in the state”, it further stated.
The Commissioner then appreciated the Bauchi State Government, member of the forth estate realm, other sister security agencies, judiciary, members of PCRC, Special Constabularies, Hunters association, vigilante group, other relevant stakeholders like Danga security and the entire good people of the State for their cooperation, support, encouragement as well as prayers.
Moreover, the command will not relent on its oars, as we will continue to put in measures to weed out unscrupulous elements in order to achieve a crime-free State.
