Traditional rulers, religious leaders tasked to join fight against drug abuse in Taraba

Taraba State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku has tasked traditional and religious leaders to join the fight against drug abuse and illicit drugs trafficking in the state.

The Governor’s who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Anthony Jellason said this at event to commemorate International Day Against Drugs Abuse in Jalingo.

The Governor explained that drug abuse has been one of the great health challenge faced im the country.

He remarked that this menace has done much harm than desired, as security challenges in the country cannot be unconnected to the high consumption of hard drugs by youths.

He warned youths not to allow themselves be used by selfish politicians for their personal gains by luring them into drugs.

Governor Ishaku said the 2022 theme ‘Addressing Drug Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crises is apt, stressing that all hands must be on deck to tamed the menace in the society.

Earlier, the Commandant, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), Taraba state Command, Jaji Sulieman said the event is a grand finale of her week long activities to create awareness yo the masses on the dangers of drugs abuse in state.

Jaji Sulieman revealed that the command has between January to June this year, arrested over one hundred suspects, seized a total of one thousand and thirty six kilograms of cannabis sativa.

The Commandant reiterated the resolve of the command not to relax it its oars to fight against drug abuse.

Jaji commended the Governor Ishaku and his wife Anna for their tremendous support to the command over the years.

The event featured paper presentation on “Addressing Drugs challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crises” by Pharmacist Paul Daniel.
