Tragedy as 85-year-old woman dies after jumping from 4-storey building

Anambra State Police Command, is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding how one Llione Victoria, aged 85, reportedly jumped to her death from a four-storey building in Onitsha.

One Judith Amumuche, identified as the care-giver to the octogenarian and other witnesses are said to be answering questions on the incident, said to have occurred at the Awada, a densely-populated area on the outskirts of the commercial city.

The woman, said to be battling mental illness, reportedly leapt from the balcony of the third floor of the building located at No 18 Ilodibe Street Awada, in the commercial nerve center of the State and died before help could reach her.

Before her death, the deceased, was said to have be putting up with her daughter, who was managing her ill-health, including restricting her movement.

“The deceased had her movement restricted due to her condition and was at home with her care giver, one Judith Amumuche ‘f’ age 32years at the time of the alleged ugly incident,” the police, said in a bulletin detailing the incident.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command John B. Abang, who confirmed the incident, enjoined the public especially those taking care of old people to be extremely careful when handling such persons to avert similar mishap.

Giving further details on the tragedy, he said: “There was a distress call at Awada Police Station over this matter, however, before the arrival of the police to the scene, one Ikediaso Benedicta ‘f’ of 3-3 Housing Estate, Onitsha, who is said to be victim’s daughter reportedly took the copse away to an unknown destination but blood stains were observed at the scene.

“The care giver and other witnesses at the scene are helping police investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
