It was a momentous celebration on Saturday, August 2, 2025, as the Catholic faithful of Ukpo Community in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State, gathered at St. Simon’s Catholic Church to commemorate 100 years of Catholicism in the town.

The grand event featured a triple celebration: the centenary anniversary, the priestly ordination of Rev. Simeon Egozoba, and a warm reception for Rev. Fr. Paul Nwofor, who was recently ordained in Gabon.

His Lordship, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, presided over the ordination of Rev. Egozoba.

In his homily, Bishop Ezeokafor urged parents to take greater responsibility in raising their children, warning that the rise of neopaganism is largely due to poor parental guidance.

He called on families to wake up to the challenges of modern society and instill strong moral and spiritual values in their children.

The ceremony also included the symbolic planting of a centenary tree, presentation of awards, and group photographs. In a generous gesture, the community presented car keys to both priests in recognition of their commitment to the faith.

A special award was also presented to renowned philanthropist and businessman, Prince Arthur Eze, in appreciation of his unwavering support to the Church and the Ukpo community.

The day ended in joy and thanksgiving as the community looked back with pride on a century of Catholic heritage and looked forward with hope to the future.
