UNICEF injects $1m to curtail menace on maternal newborn, child mortality in Gombe

UNICEF trains community health influencers and promoters on integrated community case management

The United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) has injected the total sum of $1million in collaboration with China-Africa to curtail menace of high maternal newborn and child mortality rate in Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State.
According to UNICEF no fewer than 55,234 under five children and 13,809 pregnant women that will benefit the project from January to December 2020.
It said the integrated primary health care can be easily seal up and established in the local government area.

There is need for the project to improve the health status of women and children through revitalization of primary health delivery system as well as functionality of health facility in the area.
The collaboration between UNICEF and Gombe state government has trained 38 health workers from different field of work in local government area so as to strengthen the capacity of the local government area primary health care system for quality service delivery.
At least 55 community health influencers and promoters (CHIPS) agents were also trained on integrated community case management (ICCMS).
According to Aminu Sale Abubakar assistant director primary health care development agency said north-east has recorded a poor health indices where Gombe state is located and believe that not only the project end but the process is already yielding positive result.
We will have equipment that health care service workers can work with equitable care services we may have enough drugs in all the facilities with essential drugs . If facilities are well equipped but workers are not skilled cannot rendered quality service so all this ca’nt be achieved he said.
Director primary health care development Kwami local government area Umar Musa told Journalists at the training that before the end of the project the maternal mortality rate of the local government will improve because they asked us to revitalize our PHC in all the Wards which is the reason for this training and we hope it will continue to improve he said adding that 160 Wards development committee members from the local government area were trained including 44 others.
