The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) EU funded is spending colossal sums of $200, 000 (N73m) annually in Bauchi State in improving healthcare services to the people.
Bauchi Primary Healthcare Development Agency Executive Secretary, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed while disclosing the agency’s expenditure in the state, said UNICEF is very supportive in promoting education and healthcare service delivery`.
He explained that UNICEF has initially penciled down 162 PHCs for renovation but was reviewed to 107, out of which 39 have so far been renovated and handed over to the state government.
Mohammed, at the handing-over to the state government a UNICEF renovated and upgraded Gadau Primary Healthcare Centre, also revealed that the state government has renovated twelve General Hospitals and 192 PHCs in parts of the state.
Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed who assured that the state government’s resolve of ensuring a functional PHC in each of the 323 wards in the state, congratulated the people of Gadau for having the health facility, and urged them to maintain it.
He appealed to the people, especially the womenfolk to make the best use of the facility, saying it is absolutely dangerous to deliver at homes as such act usually ends in complications’
The Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Field Office, Bauchi, Mr. Bhanu Pathak said his agency is collaborating with the Bauchi PHCDA and the Ministry of Health towards improving the health status of the people generally.
Pathak opined that the Gadau health facility is more beneficial to women and children whom he described as the life wire of any nation.
The district head of Gadau, Alhaji Muhammadu Gadau had in a vote of thank, recalled that UNICEF has for the past 60 years been supportive to education and health sectors globally.
Alh. Muhammadu Gadau commended the developmental strides of Governor Bala Mohammed in the state, stressing that the renovation of the Gadau health facility is in fulfillment of his electioneering campaign promises.
The district head expressed confidence that the committee set up by the state government to access the feasibility of reconstructing the Gadau – Itas road will do a thorough job towards the desired goal, and faulted a situation whereby Gadau People have to pass through Azare and Jama’are to reach Itas, headquarters of the council area.
