The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos Chapter have interacted with thirteen Professors vying to take over from Professor Sebastain Maimako as Vice Chancellor of the institution.

The Professors in an interactive session organised by ASUU in collaboration with Advancement Office of the institution reeled out their blue prints on why they deemed fit for the seat.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Lazarus Maigoro, ASUU chairman Unijos Chapter said the exercise was geared towards creating a platform for the candidates to present their blueprints before stakeholders.

“This is one of the best exercises organised by ASUU in recent times. This will provide the candidates the opportunity to individually tell us what they will do if given the opportunity,” he said.

The chairman urged the candidate, that may emerge at the end of the selection process, to be transparent in his dealings.

Earlier in his address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sebastain Maimako advised whoever will emerge victorious to priortise staff and students welfare, research, security among others.

Quality research, according to him, is what the University is known for and usually attracts funding both within and outside Nigeria, and the tempo should not only be maintained but possibly increased.

Represented by the Director of Non-NUC programmes, Prof John Adeiyongo, the Vice Chancellor said the event availed the candidates the opportunity to tell members of the university community what they would do if given the opportunity to lead.
“In the next one week, one of you will emerge the next vice chancellor of this University,
I want to urge the next vice chancellor to be truthful and transparent when he or she assumes office”, he added.

On his part, Prof. Lawal Abubakar, the Bauchi Zonal Chairman of ASUU, called for stronger collaboration between management of public universities and the union, in order to make the institutions better learning grounds.
