The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has selected Cross River State to deploy its ICT knowhow into agricultural sector in the ensuing year.
ICT Coordinator at USAID Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services, David Edimu disclosed this when his team visited the state to unfold their work plan for 2022 Friday.
Edimu said that the visit became necessary to inform the ministry of agriculture and natural resources of its selection for the scheme.
“We are also in the state to show our work-plan for the year. The ICT programme will commence in September 2022”, he told journalists.
According to him, Feed the Future Nigeria will provide the equipment needed to produce videos on the agricultural activity which will educate farmers in order to improve on their productivity and means of livelihood.
Addressing the USAID team in this office, the agric commissioner, Okon Owuna, commended them and said ICT would improve farm extension services in the state.
He maintained that the initiative would enable farmers get more information, make more informed market pricing decisions, expose them to new technologies and ultimately more successful farming.
He however appealed to the team to align its programme with the agricultural policy of the state.
“It is important that you don’t depend only on training and researches alone rather establish a pilot program that will impact on the farmers in the state.
” I also appeal that the scheme be aligned to the agricultural policy of present administration,” he said.
