Veritas varsity introduces Theology, 13 other programmes in 2019/2020 session

The Vice Chancellor, Veritas University, Abuja, Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku, says the university will introduce law and theology programmes, among others in its 2019/2020 academic year.
Ichoku said this in Abuja on Thursday at a media chat as part of activities lined up for the university’s 7th convocation ceremony.
The vice chancellor said that about 13 programmes would be coming on board in the next academic session in September including Law, Theology, Theatre and Film Art, Computer Engineering and Electronic Engineering.
According to him, the university currently has five colleges with about 2000 students and 31 programmes in the different departments.
“The vision of the university is to train students that are highly skilled in the tradition of high Catholic education system.
“We have a system that produces one of the high quality education in Nigerian education system, we pride ourselves by providing highly competitive students in the society.
‘’In the medium term, we are going to establish the faculty of medicine. We have experts who are willing to support us to establish the faculty.
On development stride of the university, Ichoku said they were developing new faculties and colleges by next academic session.
Ichoku said the university was also proposing the establishment of basic medical health sciences in the 2020/2021 academic session.
On the university’s 7th convocation ceremony, he said the university would graduate 109 undergraduate students and 32 post graduate students’ with 10 students clinching first class and 46 with second class upper division.
He explained that the university was engaging foreign universities on collaborations for linkage programmes.
Ichoku, however, said the institution does not only engage in the formation of intellectual aspect of students but also maintain moral discipline as one of its core values.
The university was established in 2007 by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria; it starting operating in Abia state and moved to Abuja in 2014. (NAN)
