Victim Support Fund donates hygiene facilities worth N60m to secondary schools in Bauchi, Borno, Taraba states

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities worth about N60m have been donated to 9 secondary schools in 3 states of Bauchi, Borno and Taraba in the North-East sub-region by the Victim Support Fund (VSF) an NGO established to support victims of various disasters in the country. 
The WASH materials include, solar powered boreholes, toiletries, soaps, Detol, gallons of Izal and sanitary pads for the female students in order to make staying in the boarding school more accommodating for the students especially the girls. 
While handing over the items to Bauchi state government on Wednesday at the Government Girls College, Kafin-Madaki in Ganjuwa LGA, Chairperson, Victims Support Fund Taskforce on COVID-19, Mrs Toyosi Akerele – Ogunsiji said that it was part of the VSF intervention in making life worth living for Nigerians. 
She added that, so far, the VSF Taskforce on COVID-19 as part of its 3rd phase intervention, has commenced the handover of WASH facilities to 54 schools in 18 states across the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria saying that 3 schools in each state have been chosen to benefit from the intervention. 
Toyosi Akerele – Ogunsiji pointed out that for Bauchi State, Government Girls Secondary School, Kafin Madaki; Government Science School, Toro and Government Girls Secondary School in Yana are the beneficiaries. 
Each school according to her has a solar powered borehole, 4 hand wash stations, 2000 pcs of reusable face masks, 5 pieces of 4 ltr hand sanitizers, 120 bottles of 500ml liquid hand wash and 6 cartons of Bleach. 
She then advised the school authorities to manage the facilities well because according to her if well maintained the facilities will last for the next 20 years because they are made solidly. 
In his response, while receiving the facilities, Bauchi State Commissioner of Education, Dr Aliyu Tilde thanked the VSF for its intervention in the state particularly in the education sector saying that the state government is ready to contribute to the fund. 

The Commissioner also said that the state government has being embarking on programs that are aimed at improving the standard of education in the state stressing that the aim is to bring back the good old days of standardized education. 
Aliyu Tilde then assured that his ministry will ensure that every item donated by the VSF in the state will be put to good use and properly maintained. 
Principal of the school, Mrs Hauwa commended Victim Support Fund for the donations which she said will go a long way in making learning and teaching environment very conducive in the school promising to ensure that the students used the facilities as expected.
