The House of Representatives bye-election for Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency of Taraba State witnessed low turnout despite the campaigns carried out by various party candidates.

The poor turnout might be connected with the recent endorsement of the PDP candidate Engr. Sadiq Abbas Tafida by collations of ten political parties and sudden press release by the Christian association of Nigeria (CAN) Taraba state chapter urging Christians to support PDP candidate, a development that brought confusion and anger.

Our correspondent who monitored the election in various polling units  in Jalingo and its environs reports that electorates distant themselves from polling units while others were sighted within unit vicinities.

Others expressed doubts if their votes would count.

Speaking shortly after voting, Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Area and Chairman of Association of Locals of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, Hon. Dr. Aminu Jauro expressed joy for peaceful and orderly conduct of the election.

According to him, the state Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas has provided an enabling environment for peaceful Bye-Election devoid of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

While he appreciated electorate for maturity in the conduct of the election, the council boss assured that the process will record huge success and urged the people of the council and constituency to shun violence, hate speech or utterances capable of causing bridge of peace in the state.

Hon. Jauro assured that the exemplary leadership of Governor Kefas in his developmental strides will be replicated in the local government areas as a way of appreciating the good gesture offered them.

Meanwhile top contending candidates in various political parties are Hon. Aminu Ibrahim Malle APC, Eng. Sadiq Abbas Tafida PDP, Alhaji Aminu Liman, NNPP while candidate of SDP Innocent Umar stepped down from the race.
