A Cholera outbreak in Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas of Adamawa State has claimed 13 lives with 236 people affected with the disease.
Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chief Felix Tangwami, disclosed this to journalists after the weekly State Executive Council Meeting presided by Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa G Farauta at Government House Council chamber, Yola.
He said some of the deceased died at home rather than in health facilities, noted that the state government in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), had taken measures to cotail the outbreak.
According the Commissioner, “from the beginning, we have been on top of the situation. Our presence has been there, and this cannot be denied”.
Tangwami reiterated that the state epidemiologist, the Director of Disease Control at the Primary Care Development Agency, and volunteers had been deployed to Mubi to provide services and create awareness.
The Commissioner had called on traditional leaders to support government efforts by encouraging residents to promptly seek treatment at health facilities.
He said, there is need for the people in the state particularly residents of the two local governments to imbibe the culture of cleanliness by keeping their environment clean and disinfecting their hands at all times.
