Week in review at Nasarawa ministry of youth, sports development

The Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development is a key component of the State Government that is bestowed with the responsibilities to coordinate, facilitate and ensure the development of youth and sports in the State.

It provides the policy direction(i.e Youth and Sports Policies) for the smooth implementation of youth and sports activities and programmes throughout the State through its satellite institutions and or agencies such as the Department of Youth Development; Department of Sports Organizing; Department of Research, Planning and Statistics; Department of Finance & Accounts; Department of Facilities & Stadium Management; Department of Technicals; Department of Administration & Supplies; Nasarawa United FC and Nasarawa Amazons FC, respectively.

Among others, the Ministry ensures it delivers excellence in youth and sports development by ensuring that youth of the State are guided towards entrepreneurship, employability, leadership and encourage mass participation in sports and exercise for well-being.

It also the centre and platform for empowering youth as effective aggregate in the statewide development and for excellence in sports which in turn generates value and peaceful co-existence.

During the last week of the Month of March, the Ministry had its end-of-the-month Sanitation Exercise.

The monthly activity which is held at the last Monday of every month is aimed at keeping the Ministry and its surrounding districts clean, habitable and free from harmful creatures.

The Permanent Secretary, Mallam Isah Mohammed Eyah, led Directors and other staff of the Ministry, including National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) Members serving at the Ministry to perform the exercise.

  1. On Tuesday, the Ministry held a micro orientation lecture for newly deployed Corps Members to the Ministry where the Corps Members were taught about the activities of the Ministry, how to properly utilize their compulsory service year at their place of primary assignment, their immediate communities and nation at large.

Over fifty Corps Members deployed to the Ministry were taken on the orientation by the duo of the Director of Administration & Supplies, Isa Mustapha, alongside the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Eche Amos.

  1. Then on Thursday, the Ministry held an induction course for newly employed staff of the Organization, majority of whom were casual workers before their subsequent permanenting by the Governor Abdullahi Sule-led administration.

The twenty four newly recruited staff were taken through the rudiments and civil service operational templates by the trio of the Permanent Secretary, Mallam Isah Mohammed Eyah, the Director of Administration & Supplies, Isa Mustapha, alongside the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Eche Amos.

The new staff were charged to live above board as they are still functioning on probation for the next two years before their full confirmation.

  1. Thursday’s activities ended with a visit to the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs where the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, briefed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, thirteen Council Chairmen and eighteen Development Areas’ Overseers on the preparations to stage the Governor’s Football Cup Tournament and other related issues.

The Commissioner was accompanied to the sitting by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mallam Isah Mohammed Eyah, Director of Sports Organizing, Lawrence Shammah, and the Public Relations Officer, Eche Amos.
