Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has disclosed that they will soon establish Disability Commission.

He disclosed this when large delegation of Muslims Ummah from across the 18 local government areas of the state paid him Ramadan visit.

Delegation was led by head of Muslim community in the state, Saraki Alhaji Garba Lawan IV.

Governor Otu said, “We are coming up with the Disability Commission which will take care of programmes that will cater for the welfare needs of our people who are physically challenged.

“The physically challenged must also be able to feel the dividends of democracy.

“Moving forward, I can assure you that you will also have a place as far as the society is concerned,” he said.

Expressing happiness for the visit, Otu assured the delegation that his administration is doing its best to improve the living standard of all residents.

Otu said, “Let me thank you from the deepest of our hearts for all the prayers and love which you have showered on this government. The Muslim Community has always been with me from day one.”

He lauded the Muslim community for deeming it necessary to visit and pray for him, adding that “to have you in this number and capacity here goes a long way to underscore the affinity and love with which we share as brothers and sisters.

“We pray that our bond and affinity grow even stronger. There is nothing that prayers cannot do. The doors of this state are open today because of prayers.

“Forgive, love one another; live and let live; humanity should be our religion,” Governor Otu admonished.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the Cross River Muslim community, Sarkin Lawan said the Ramadan is a holy month set aside for Muslim faithful to seek Allah’s presence in  prayer and supplication.

He said Muslims in the state deemed it necessary to visit the Governor and pray for him and the state for the continuous blessings, which every resident has enjoyed in the last ten month of his administration.

The Islamic cleric stated that other cardinal principles of Islam are to foster peace, love and good neighborliness, as taught by the holy Prophet Mohammed.
