We’ve trained 786,741 for 2023 Census – Cross River Director, Eteng

Director of National Population Commission (NPC) in Cross River State, Billy Eteng has disclosed that as many as 786,741 Nigerians have been trained so far for the conduct of this year’s Census, holding from 29th March to 2nd April 2023.
Eteng disclosed this in Calabar during a lecture he presented to enlighten Nigerians about the census.
He listed, “The total number of functionaries being trained for deployment for the Census is 786,741.
“This consists of 623,797 enumerators, 125,944 supervisors, 24,001 data quality assistants, 12,000 field coordinators, 1000 data quality managers, 1639 training centre administrators and 59,000 LGA level facilitators.”
Eteng explained that most of these persons have been trained on census forms, census applications, data capturing process, interpersonal communication, basic shooting of computer assisted personal interview (CAPI).
Eteng mentioned further that other training topics focussed during he training includes dispute resolution and basic use of excel.
He said NPC organised the training in stages, starting with Census Specialised Workforce and facilitators.
He said given the very importance of the population and housing Census exercise, federal government has yet expended vast resources, even as he also expressed gratitude to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for overall technical assistance as lead partner.
Eteng hinted that in order to mobilise sufficient technical, financial and material resources, the Commission will hold a major donors’ conference shortly.
