WHO donates medical equipment to Bauchi to fight cholera outbreak

The World Health Organization (WHO) has supplied laboratory equipment and other medical tools to Bauchi State Government through the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BASPHCDA) as part of the organization’s commitment to fight Cholera outbreak and other infectious diseases in the state.
Presenting the items on behalf of the WHO, State Coordinator, Dr Mahmoud Saidu said that the Organization is concerned about the incessant outbreaks in the state hence it is pertinent to strengthen health institutions in order to respond effectively to all emerging diseases.

The State Coordinator also expressed appreciation over the kind of partnership with the Bauchi State Government, pointing out that the intervention is to support preparedness towards early detection, case identification in such away it can trigger prompt responses.
While receiving the intervention, the Executive Chairman, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed appreciated the long standing working relationship that exist between the State and the World Health Organization which he describes it as impactful and is bringing positive responses as per as control of diseases.
Recall that last year during Cholera outbreak, the WHO had donated to Bauchi State about 1.5 million doses of Oral Cholera Vaccines (OCV) for mass vaccination campaign which were utilized throughout the endemic zones of the state.
In attendance at the brief ceremony were ,  the Executive Chairman SPHDCA Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, State Coordinator WHO Dr Mahmoud Saidu, outgoing State Coordinator, WHO Dr Adamu Ibrahim Ningi,  Directors of Disease Control and Immunization Malam Dahiru Ibrahim Mahmoud, Primary Health Care Alhaji Bakoji Ahmad, Incidence Manager Emergency Operation Centre Dr Salisu Idris Isah, State Epidemiologist Gandi A Jibgi and Bitrus Bawa of the Epidemiology Unit.
