Over two thousand years ago, there was the biblical account of a certain personality known for betraying his Master.
He was so conspicuous towards the end of his Master’s mission, and his name is Judas Iscariot.
According to the Christian canonical gospels, Judas Iscariot was one of the disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. There were various reasons for the betrayal role Judas played in order to fulfill the prophesy of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Greed was one of the potential characteristics of Judas, as well as his misguided belief that our Lord Jesus Christ had the ability to overcome every temptation that comes His way.
The significant aspect of Judas role was the kiss of betrayal, letting the soldiers get hold of his Master.
Regardless of the close relationship he enjoyed as the treasurer of the disciples family, his actions of receiving 30 pieces of silver, which today is worth the value of approximately $91 to $441 (USD), though foretold, were abominable, resulting in modern-day Christianity refusal to bear the name Judas.
The political situation in Nigeria has resurfaced the bitter lessons of betrayal.
It’s now common place to call politicians Judas even against those who stand for the truth.
A rather unfortunate scenario to conjecture the overthrow of decency by those perpetrators of evil machinations, those false accusers engrossed in loothocracy, not giving heed to accountability, and the eventual acceptance of the master of falsehood over the servant of truth, which end is nigh.
I read and hear people referring His Excellency Sir Sim Fubara as Judas, and I dare to ask, is wike Jesus?
Who then is the betrayal between Fubara, whose loyalty is to Rivers State or wike the emperor, and dictator, terrorizing the people of Rivers State.
Since he chose to set fire in Rivers, threatening other Governors to also set fire in their States, he should wait till the fire in Rivers State is extinguished to receive his reward.
As he will always say, “heaven will not fall, and if heaven falls, there will be peace.”
Contrary to his expectations, heaven has fallen. Therefore, there will be no peace for the wicked.
The loudness created out of cheers accorded the Abuja, Federal Capital Territory minister may portend victory as perceived by his associates, followers, and cheerful supporters.
His boastful posture off and on the electronic media, likewise, public events /functions, he is seen as being in control of the political situation in Rivers State and by extension Nigeria.
He calls the shots, predicts court verdicts with precision, and claims to hire the best team of lawyers to defend illegality in the face of his opponents despair.
He suddenly arrogate to himself the immunity status he once enjoyed for eight years as a former governor.
Currently, he is celebrated as a hero who brazenly stopped the allocation of a state he once governed; holding thanksgiving ceremonies and meetings to put himself into the contextual evidence that he was responsible for the crisis rocking Rivers State and nobody can do anything about it.
To him, this unrestricted show of power over the people may seemingly not come to an end, but, assuredly history will remind the generations to come about this era of cruelty and absurdity, all in the name of playing politics.
His name shall be synonymous with Judas and shall never be given to children for the betrayal role against the Rivers people.
A time will come when all men of goodwill shall remember wike for all his disdainful and atrocious acts, and that time draws closer than ever, shall men imagine.
