Why Cross River student unions leaders rate APC governorship candidate higher

Leaders of several students unions in all tertiary institutions in Cross River State believe that the governing party candidate for this weekend election, Prince Bassey Otu is far higher in their rating to succeed incumbent governor, Prof Ben Ayade.

They have therefore unanimously endorsed Otu as their prefered gubernatorial candidate and hope to vote for him.

Chairman of the umbrella body called Students Leadership Forum, which comprises of National Association of Cross River Students (NACCRIS), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and other affiliate unions, Comrade Edet Boniface disclosed this when he addressed Journalists alongside other student unions leaders at the NUJ Press Centre Calabar.

He said they reviewed the pedigrees of other candidates and resolved that Prince Bassey Otu has been reputed for giving large-scale supports and infrastructure to students in the state.

Boniface stated that the odds are in favour of Otu and the APC because of abiding with the zoning arrangement that has heralded political transitions in the State.

“Otu has greater antecedents compared to all other candidates. He has also given grants and scholarships to students and even employed many youths and empowered so many others.

“He has made us all to define him as the author of empowerment.

“Otu’s proven track record, antecedents of educational programmes, as well as his youth-friendly disposition, pip him ahead of others in the race for Cross River’s most coveted position.”

Also speaking, the President of the National Association Of Cross River State Students, NACRISS, Comrade Akpeke Peter Adie, said the. APC guber candidate has the support of all students at various levels.

He disclosed that Otu’s position as a life member of NACRISS Worldwide further informed such unanimous support.

President of the Students Union Government in the University of Calabar, Tyrone Bassey said that students in the State stand for truth, justice, equity and fairness, which reason Otu appeals to them.
