By Ibraheem Hamza Muhammad, Abuja The Director General of the National Directorate of Employment, (NDE) Silas Agara, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) with Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State to continue using its skills acquisition center, Onipanu, Ogbomosho, to train students for two years.
He made the disclosure when he received Rector of the Institution, Dr Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed and management of the institution in his office, in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to him, “NDE and our supervising Ministry of Labour are poised to execute the policy of the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative, (RHEI) of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to train and empower Nigerian youth towards learning a skill and be self reliant and even be employers of labour.
“I commend your initiative to liaise with NDE to train students in our skills acquisition center in Onipanu, Ogbomosho for the practical training of your students for 2 years before you have your own equipments for your relatively new Polytechnic.
“The center was released to you before, but I said that it is better we sign an MOU and meet virtually and now physically towards nation building,” he said.
In his response, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Abdul-Hameed said, “When former President Muhammadu Buhari established the Polytechnic in 2021, we were informed that we can write to NDE to use its Skills Acquisition Center in Ayede.
“We wrote during the administration of the former DG, but this DG, Honourable Silas Agara engaged us in a virtual meeting until we all democratically agreed to the conditions for the MoU.
“I on behalf of the chairman of the governing board, Hon Yakubu Dati, management, staff and students are thankful to the NDE for his gesture to use its facilities for training the future generation,” he said.
