Wife of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate for Taraba State, Mrs. Mbantira Danladi Baido has visited some pregnant women in Zing Local Government Area of the state with the view of supporting the fight against high maternal mortality rate.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs Baido said, it is disheartening how women still lose their lives during pregnancy and child birth in this part of the world when technology has made available modern equipment that could curtail those preventable deaths.
She appealed to the pregnant women to ensure to register and attend antenatal clinic all through the period of their pregnancy stressing that, that is the most effective way to nib any challenge in the bud on time to avoid death at delivery.
Mrs Baido who presented gift items to pregnant women comprising of delivery items at the event revealed that, if her husband is elected Governor of Taraba State in 2023, his administration will make budgetary provisions for pregnant women who attend antenatal care.
She said by so doing every pregnant woman will be encouraged to attend clinics and maternal mortality rate will drop.
Also speaking, some beneficiaries lauded her efforts for considering their plights and assured her of their votes for SDP IN the governorship polls in March 2023.
“We have not had any such visit before. To have thought of us even before her husband gets into power, we are confident she will encourage him to cater for vulnerable people like us in Taraba State when elected,” a pregnant woman said.
A health care official who pleaded anonymity revealed that, fifty percent of the pregnant women in Zing who are brought to the facility die due to varying complications, decried government’s negligence of the primary health facilities in the local government area.
On arrival, Mrs. Baido paid homage to the Emir of Zing, and the mother of the former Governor of Taraba State, Rev. Jolly T. Nyame, Mama Jumai Eli Nyame who all prayed for her and her entourage.
Mrs. Baido was accompanied by wives of candidates contesting the 2023 elections under the platform of the SDP, SDP state Women Leader and party faithful.
