Wing Commander Abdullahi Vocational Institute trains 9,000 technicians in 2 years – Executive Director

The Executive Director, Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational Technology Institute, Dr Daniel Ewuga Asele, said that the Institute had trained 9,000 technicians in different occupational trades areas in two years.

Dr Asele disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Lafia, on the achievements of Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State’s two years of his second term in office.

“The technical and entrepreneurship component of education in the state had received unprecedented attention under the administration of Gov. Abdullahi Sule since the assumption of office in 2019.

” Gov Sule’s administration has demonstrated unwavering commitment toward technical education and skills acquisition development in the state,” he said.

Asele explained that the state government under the administration of Gov. Sule had renovated and equipped all the technical colleges and relevant technology boards across the three Senatorial zones.

The executive director said the establishment of Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational Technology Institute by Gov Sule immediately he assumed office was a clear demonstration of his passion for technical skills development.

According to him, the institute is presently offering training in 40 different contemporary occupational trade areas for the teeming youths of the state and outside the state.

He listed some of the occupational trade areas offered in the Institute to includes: welding and fabrication, refrigerator and air conditioner repairs, mechatronics and motor mechanics, fitting, and machining.

Others are tiling, plumbing and pipe fittings, aluminum fabrication,
Furniture/upholstery, screeding and Plaster of Paris (POP), programming and Web design, computer hardware maintenance, beauty care, leather works, fashion design and knitting, confectioneries, among others.

“Asele said, ” For us here, we don’t just introduce the programme, before we introduce our programme we usually carry out a needed analysis from the society.

“Having known quite well that we are training these youths to go back to the society and contribute their quota to the development of their respective communities, states in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

“The Governor equipped the institute with the state of the art facilities, equipment that is found here in the Institute are all imported.

“The governor also ensured that he brought in seasoned and qualified personnel to use this modern equipment to impact skills to the citizen of Nasarawa State in particular and to the citizen of Nigeria in general,”.

Asele explained that the Institute has programmes for different people, the Women Skills Empowerment Programme (WOSEP) targeted at women, “Catch Them Young” which targets teenagers.

Also, programme for prospective retirees as well as programme for people with disabilities.

“The governor has given us a matching mandate to ensure that we develop a template where we track all the trainees of this institute.

“So far, our tracking mechanism revealed that 85 percent of our trainees have established their businesses and we are following them up and nurturing them to ensure that they become very successful,” he said.
