Women urged to speak out against physical, sexual assault

The Kaduna Commissioner Ministry for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, called on both sexes, especially women to stop hiding perpetrators of Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in order to help cub the increasing menace in the society.

Hajiya Hafsat, who spoke through Hajiya Maryam Mu’azu in a workshop on Youth Capacity Building Training to Foster Peaceful Coexistence in Kaduna State through Early Warning Early Response System

“We should not be silent in the face of gender based violence. We should rise and speak out against it. Don’t hide it, don’t shelter the perpetrator and don’t pretend about it.” She said

Speaking on Early Warning Early Response, Mr. Barau Emmanuel from Kaduna State Peace Commission, said the Commission has been saddled with the need to strengthen the mechanisms for monitoring and preventing conflict in the state by ensuring early detection and timely action to mitigate threats to peace and security.

According to him, Early Warning Early Response means to reinvigorate the chain of events from when threats are detected, reported and also the response time.

Earlier speaking, Samson Auta from Interfaith Mediation Center (IMC), Kaduna said the training was organized to ensure peace is promoted in southern Kaduna communities and the entire state.

He called on the participants to be agents of change and replicate the gesture by organizing a step down training to their various communities.

The Southern Kaduna Early Warning Early Response Committee was inaugurated at the end of the training which held in Kachia LG to continue with the responsibility of reporting detective threats to the authorities concern.

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated chairman of the committee, Monday Gyubok Moses from Jaba Local Government Area said as peace observers, they will do all it can to ensure that the objectives of EWER is achieve for the benefit of all.

“Our peace matters a lot because it’s only in the presence of peace we will experience development and growth. We are committed, we are all responsible towards ensuring we do as expected of us.” He said

Organized by Interfaith Mediation Center (IMC), Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP), in collaboration with Kaduna State Ministry for Social Services and Human Development, EWER is a project funded by USAID and Mercy Corps.
