Wukari council chairman, Jukun Association condemn attacks by Tiv militias

The Chairman Jukun Development Association ‘Shikwa’ and Wukari local government council Council Chairman has condemned the recent killing of a driver and three others while several persons sustained gun injuries in an armed attack in Jootar of Benue state.
Investigation revealed that the attack was carried out on Jukun persengers on Church programme traveling for a Christian Reformed Church- Nigeria (CRC-N) to a Kungiyan Yan Krista (KYK) National Conversation Youth week in Abinsi, Guma local government area of Benue state, were allegedly attacked by Tiv militias and a driver was killed.
The attack on Jukun of Wukari in my Taraba by the Tiv in Benue states where a driver was feared killed around Jootar axis of Ukum local government area Benue.
While the second day another attack on the Jukun wood breakers along Ibi road in Wukari LGA who were in the their wood breaking businesses three were also killed during the attacked.
Subsiquently, the said attacks took place on two different spot which led the total of four lives were lost while several others from the bus attacked are now responding to treatment in Wukari.
When contacted, the Chairman Jukun ‘Shikwa’ (Jukun Development Association) Wukari branch, Mr. John Dan Igye
narrated that on the faithful day of Thursday, the Youths who were heading for the yearly KYK National Conference in Abinsi in Benue state the neighbouring Tiv millitia attacked the bus and killed the driver instantly.
Igye further said, the attack, the remaining percengers took their heels into the bush for the safety of thier lives when fortunately some of them were rescued by some good Tiv citizens that gave shield and were returned to Wukari including those wounded.
Mr John Dan Igye said, he reported the incident to the security and Wukari local government area council Chairman, Hon. Angyu Dauda Samaila assured him that they are taking adequate measure’s on the situation and must ensure the parpatrators are brought to book.
On the alleged killing of three Tiv National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members in Byepyi, that nobody was killed it’s purely lies as insinuated and mere propergander as usual caried out by the Tiv for sympathy.
When contacted, the Wukari local government Chairman, Hon. Samaila said receiving the report, he directed the Tiv Cultural Chairman Taq Orshi Aondowase to bring up the before him in the office, after thorough findings confirmed that what took place was Fulanis herders are the root course and responsible by destroying a farm and burning of huts, he ordered the herders to compasate the affected farmers for thier losses including damaged farms and yam seeds on April 1, 2025.
The Chairman also issued a strong warning to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in the area.
As at the time of this report, the situation have been handed peacefully by the Chairman in collaboration with the Wukar Divisional police Officer (DPO) and Military Command in Wukari, The Chairman therefore urge residents to disregard any misleading reports related to such.
On his part, the Chairman Tiv Cultural Association Mr Taq Orshi Aondowase said, he was informed that a Church convoy was attacked by some criminals and were rubbed of their belongings, the Tiv didn’t attacked Church people but criminals.
On the directive by Wukari Council Chairman directing him t bring up the case to his office the case was between herder/farmers which he directed not that of the NYSC, the case took place in Chonku village in Wukari LGA and was taken to Jootar which is not the jurisdiction.
Aondowase words, “A Fulani man destroys a Tiv man Cassava farm in Chonku in Wukari and two children were taken to Jootar which is not within their jurisdiction, I now directed that the case be brought to Wukari.
In the case of NYSC, he said he called his Tiv people any body that has the knowledge to brief with relatable information pertaining the case in Byepyi, Gidan Idi etc till now there is no report from any end.
He noted that, “I didn’t hear anything of such nature, and said don’t mind all these media propaganda, if not till now Tiv man has called me to report to me despite dropping my phone number.”
Also contacted was one Nuhu Agbada who said, any claim that Tiv don’t have Militias is an under estimation because, there is no Tiv man or Woman or thier neighbours can claim that they (Tiv) people are not violent. They are known for uprising right from time immemorial, as he identify the followings, Nande, Atem- tyough 1964, Nyambua and Gana (T Gwaza)
The above are all Tiv millitia, in thier usual characteristic the time has come with thier neighbours and if they don’t see anyone to fight they start fighting themselves. As we talk now, serious conflicts are ongoing in Mala in Gwer west and Logo axis. At Naka they burnt down a traditional ruler’s resident and several buildings.
Also in a statement credited to one Terver Mchianan (Otuka) said, “I received a shock information that Tiv people who went to Wukari were slaughtered unlawfully by Jukun militants in Wukari LGA of Taraba state, the shocking information led me to fall sick, because of my leader Zaki Akiki u Tiv who forcefully stops me from seeking revange”.
Therefore, “let this be on note that, if this killings and brutality on Tiv people continue, I will have no option than to turn down the instructions of my leader Zaki Akiki U Yet and a host others because, I can’t sit back and watch the Jukun militants kill my people”.
