Dr. Babagana Tijjani, Executive Secretary, Yobe Contributory Healthcare Management Agency

The Yobe Contributory Healthcare Management Agency on Tuesday said it was targeting no fewer than three million persons under its Informal Contributory Healthcare Programme.

Dr Babagana Tijjani, the Executive Secretary of the agency, stated this at an advocacy meeting with informal groups in Damaturu.

He listed the beneficiaries of the programme to include artisans, farmers, traders, cattle breeders, barbers, drivers, women groups, among others.

Tijjani said each beneficiary would contribute N12,000 to the fund to enjoy primary secondary and tertiary healthcare services.

The executive secretary said over 200 healthcare centres across the state were registered for the programme which would begin in March.

He said the essence of the meeting was to educate the informal groups on the need to key into the programme.

In his remarks, Alhaji Baba Shehu, Chairman, Network for Civil Societies, commended the state government for introducing the all-important programme.

“You will recall that this agency had earlier successfully introduced the formal programme, the Social Equity Programme, and now the informal programme, within three years of its establishment.

“To achieve this rare feat, which many states are yet to achieve within such a short period of time, is most commendable,” he said.

Shehu, however, called on the healthcare centres to ensure that they provide qualitative services to the beneficiaries at all times.(NAN)
