The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Abubakar Y Suleiman has described as libelous, statement credited to the former Bauchi North senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Farouk Mustapha referring to him (Speaker) as a “spy in the APC fold” in an interview with Wikki Times.
The Speaker in a statement by Abdul Ahmad Burra, Spokesperson to the Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly wondered how a person whom he hold with high esteem would make such disparaging and injurious statements which are clearly aimed at lowering his esteem and respect in the eyes of the right thinking members of the society.
He states that, “To put the record straight, the Speaker will never stand so low to become a spy or an informant of someone in the party in which he is loyal member, pillar and bridge-builder” .
Abdul Ahmad Burra stated that the allegation that the Speaker didn’t attend the Party’s meetings and activities is completely untrue and unfounded explaining that, “Apart from consistent financial assistance to the Party, the Speaker has been attending APC’s meetings and activities in Abuja, Bauchi and his Local Government, Ningi. Even the recent Zonal and State Critical Stakeholders meetings that took place at the State Party Secretariat,  the Speaker was there”.
He further stated that, “One wonders how Hon. Farouk Mustapha, a new comer to the Party who is yet to come to term with the Party affairs, happenings and processes will resort to attacking the party loyalists instead of making friends and building bridges. He prayed that, as new comer to APC, Hon. Farouk Mustapha is not driven by dangerous political speed and ambitiousness.
While the Speaker will not betray the respect and friendly disposition he has for Farouk Mustapha by joining issues with him, he hoped that the former NNPP stalwart will control and stabilize his political speed especially with regard to his new party affairs.
