Youths, widows get start-up support in Kaduna

The Minority Leader of the Kaduna State House of Assembly and Member representing Jema’a Constituency, Hon. Ali Kalat, has empowered no fewer than 200 youth and widows with start-up capital and Point of Sale (POS) machines to support small-scale businesses and promote self-reliance.
The empowerment programme, tagged “Sustainable Growth and Development Initiative,” was held in Jema’a and attracted party stakeholders, community leaders, and beneficiaries.
Hon. Kalat said the gesture was aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship and reducing dependence on white-collar jobs. He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items, stressing that effective management of the resources would contribute to household income and boost the local economy.
The lawmaker also expressed appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for awarding contracts for the renovation of three primary schools in his constituency, describing it as a step towards improving education in rural areas.
In a show of solidarity, the Member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency, Hon. Daniel Amos, supported the programme by adding another 100 beneficiaries, bringing the total to 300. He said such efforts must be sustained across communities to create wider impact, urging the beneficiaries to extend the benefits of empowerment to others.
Speaking at the event, the Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Hon. Edwar Percy Masha, commended the lawmakers for their initiative, which he described as timely. He urged the beneficiaries to put the support to good use, adding that the PDP was emerging stronger and more united to reclaim its position in the state.
Masha also cautioned voters to be wary of individuals collecting data, including PVC numbers, in the guise of empowerment schemes, warning that such actions could undermine the electoral process.
Beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondent expressed gratitude, saying the support would help them start or expand businesses in POS operations and petty trading.
