Five states from South south and five states from Southeast Nigeria have been pencilled down to participate in the upcoming 5th edition of Calabar Table Tennis children championship.
She disclosed this to news men on Tuesday at UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar where the 3-day tourney will hold from 17 to 19 April 2025.
She disclosed that she has earmarked N15 million for the tourney, revealing that N2.5m will go for prize money while the rest will purchase Table Tennis equipment, including bats, ball, jerseys, etc ml
She expressed the fears that due to inflationary prices of these equipment, almost all the children cannot afford the equipment.
“I have decided to always supply them with the equipment. I have been doing that since the first edition.
“The total costs of these will be over N12m. Of course, I usually appear to my other professional colleagues to donate the ones they no longer use for the tourney. I like my professionals usually use the tennis bats for only one month and discard them but our younger ones use theirs for one year. So the ones I distributed at last 4th editions are out bbn of use now.”
Edem has appealed for state government and private sector supports to sustain and encourage the young ones to sustain their interests in Table Tennis.
