A Taraba State governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief David Sabo Kente on Saturday promised to prioritize education and the boosting of Internally Generated Revenue if elected governor next year.
The Governorship hopeful who disclosed this in Jalingo while officially declaring his intention to contest the governorship ticket of the APC in the 2023 Taraba governorship race explained that he will introduce double stream teaching and learning model to revive the education sector if given the mandate.
He explained that the double stream would entail children going to school both morning and evening to end the menace of out of school children
Kente noted that the model would enable his administration to use less educational infrastructure to train more students so that the funds for additional school infrastructure would be channelled to teachers’ welfare and other developmental projects.
He said he will tap the enormous natural endowment in the state to improve state’s Internally Generated Revenue and address the development needs of the state rather than depending on federal Allocation.
“Taraba state is hugely endowed with both agricultural and mineral resources that needs a focused person to explore for the benefit of the people. Our tourist potentials are wasting away because we have not focused attention to that sector.
” There is so much that needs to be done and together, we can do it. We can build that Taraba of our dream, a Taraba we can proudly hand over to our children. Let me urge all members of the APC in the state to go for the best to be able to take Taraba from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023″ he said.
Kente, who is a Board member of the North East Development Commission and a retired Director of Finance with the National Assembly and founder of the DSK Foundation said he would turn around the fortunes of the state if given the mandate.
“Taraba is so endowed and does not need to continue to depend on federal allocation to survive. If elected, I will use my experience in the business world and my experience in governance to bear on the economy of the state,” he said.
The governorship hopefuls urged APC members, especially the prospective delegates in the forthcoming primary election to vote their conscience and shun those who may want to entice them with money.
Aljazirah reports that Kente, who was the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2015 and an aspirant for the ticket of the APC in the 2019 governorship race in the state had a day earlier donated seven operational vehicles to the party in the state and called on members of the party to work in unison for the ultimate victory rather than pursuing personal interest.
The official declaration attracted large crowd of APC members from the 16 local government areas of the State.
