In its commitment to the environment, 50 journalists drawn from central part of Nigeria have been trained by Dangote Cement Plc.
Dangote made this as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility scheme of the company aimed at sharpening the reporting skills of the journalists.
The Group Chief of Branding and Corporate Communication, Mr. Anthony Chiejina revealed that, “Journalists are our partners in progress. Our President, Alhaji Aliko Dangote believes Nigeria can be better if newsmen understand the realities of the environment.”
The training was at Objaana in Kogi State and hosted by the Climate Africa Media Initiative and Centre(CAMIC).
The Executive Director of CAMIC, Mr Aliu Akoshile, stated the time was rife to train Nigerian journalists on the impact of the environment on Nigerians.
Mr. Akoshile said climate change impacts are responsible for most conflicts and economic issues in Nigeria, which will help newsmen in their daily reporting.
Also, the Plant Director, Dangote Cement Plc Obajana, Mr. J.V. Gungune, who was represented by the Head of Human Resources and Administration Haruna Adiniyi, said the Dangote Group is recognizance of the environment and Climate Change in all its subsidiaries.
The Head of Dangote Academy Mr. Ademola Adeyemi said, the social intervention of the company through its Community Development Agreements (CDA) with the two mining communities is huge.
Head of Dangote Academy at Obajana, Mr. Wale Adedeji, said the emission of carbon monoxide by the Dangote Cement Plc is below the United Nations peg, which shows strict compliance to UN standard.
