Anambra Governor Soludo inspects Port-Harcourt Road, Niger Street, pledges N18m clean-up challenge, renovation of Ogbaru market

Anambra State Governor Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo of conducted an inspection tour in Onitsha South and Ogbaru, focusing on infrastructure development and resident wellbeing.

The Governor expressed dissatisfaction with inter-state buses blocking drainages and mandated a 5-meter clearance.

Governor Soludo vowed to make Fegge, “the best neighborhood anyone can live in” and announced a new General Hospital.

An “emergency” was declared for drainage cleaning, with an N18 million competition incentivizing the creation of the cleanest and greenest streets and the winning street will receive N10 million, the second-place finisher N5 million, and the third-place finisher N3 million.

A partnership with landlords for property beautification was proposed, offering subsidized paint through “made-in-Anambra” manufacturers.

“Transformers will be installed next week to address power supply issues caused by overloading. Prepaid meters will be introduced alongside the transformers.

“Solar power solutions will be implemented in the Anambra Fruit and Vegetable Market Ogbaru to address electricity shortages,” Prof Soludo stated.

He pledged to upgrade the Anambra Fruit and Vegetable Market, aiming to make it one of the biggest in the State, adding that infrastructure projects to tackle flooding in the area are promised before the next rainy season.

The Governor’s visit highlights his focus on improving living conditions in Onitsha South and Ogbaru through infrastructure upgrades, environmental initiatives, and partnerships with residents and businesses.

The competitive approach to street cleanliness and the focus on affordable beautification solutions are noteworthy aspects of his plan.

Earlier, the Transition Committee Chairman of Onitsha South, Hon. Emeka Joseph Orji, expressed gratitude for Governor Soludo’s commitment to development, citing the completed construction of Port-Harcourt Road and Niger Street.

Dignitaries including, the Speaker Anambra House of Assembly Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze, Secretary to the State Government Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief of Protocol Chinedu Nwoye Glamour, Commissioner for Environment, Mr Felix Odimegwu, MD Aswama Mike Ozoemena, MD Anambra Urban Regeneration Council Arc. Mike Okonkwo, Chairman Onitsha South Landlords Association Fegge, Ndubuisi Umezuruike amongst others attended the event.
