Over 5000 underprivileged farmers from the eight local government areas that make up Kaduna South Senatorial District received bags of fertilizer for free in the first phase of distribution exercise by Senator Sunday Marshall Katung
The flag off of the distribution exercise to the beneficiaries, who got one bag of fertilizer each, was held on Monday in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Speaking during the programme, Senator Katung cautioned against any form of diversion adding that the commodity is meant for the underprivileged, widows and people living with disability.
He appealed to those who have not benefitted in first phase of distribution to be patient as another set of people will benefit when the second consignment arrives in two weeks.
The lawmaker said the gesture was to bring succor to farmers because of the high cost of fertilizer in the market, and called on other legislators and governments at all levels to also assist farmers to record bumper harvests.
Earlier, the leader of the distribution committee, Mr. Allahmagani Yohanna, explained that the two brands of NPK 20-10-10 fertilizer are evenly shared to all the local government areas according to their political wards.

In their goodwill messages, various speakers, including the Council Chairman, Zango Kataf Local Government Area, Mr. Francis Sani, the Minority Leader, Kaduna State House of Assembly, Mr. Ali Kalat, Dr. Sale Pashi, PDP chieftain, and the representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), and Jama’atul Nasir Islam, (JNI), commended the Senator for channelling the assistance to the less privileged, and urged them to utilize the commodity for the intended purposes.
In a remark on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mrs. Mary Joshua, and Mr. Musa Auta thanked Senator Katung for the gesture, even as they noted the special consideration he is giving to people living with disability, widows and the less privileged in the society.
