Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has on Tuesday flagged-off the construction work for the dualisation of a 6.4 kilometer township road in Argungu municipal valued at N7.23 billion to ease vehicular traffic as well as the movements of goods and services.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Idris said the money covered road construction, drainage system and installation of solar street lights.
He stressed that: “Today we are in your domain to fulfil part of our campaign promises. I am glad to state that we have fulfilled 50 to 60 per cent of our campaign promises.”
While assuring that government had already mobilised the contractor to site with 40 per cent down payment of the contract sum, the Governor said money for the project had been kept aside.
“We don’t award contract unless we have the money at hand, because we don’t want to leave any abandoned project in this regime, therefore, all projects ongoing must be completed,” he said.
Speaking on another project, Governor Idris promised to commence renovation of Argungu General Hospital next week and would equip it with state-of-the-art facilities, stating further: “It is not only renovation but also we are going to supply the hospital with modern equipment and more doctors will be deployed to the hospital.”
In his speech, the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Abdullahi Umar Faruk said the 6.4 kilometer dual carriageway township road was awarded to Amirco Universal Concept, and was given 12 months as completion period and thanked the Governor for executing several developmental projects across the length and breadth of the state.
While thanking the Governor for siting the projects in his domain, the Emir of Argungu, Samaula Muhammad Argungu, also on behalf of other traditional rulers in the state thanked him for the care and concern being accorded them.
On its part, the contractor handling the project, Amirco Universal Concept promised to complete the project within six months instead of 12 months as it had already mobilised its staff and equipment to the site.
