NSCDC arrests truck driver for allegedly attempting to run over officers with adulterated fuel in Anambra

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested a truck driver for allegedly conveying 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit and attempting to run over its operatives during an operation on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
The suspect, Mr. Sunday Ukeh, 46, from Odume in Awgu LGA, Enugu State, was paraded at the Command Headquarters in Awka by the State Commandant, Maku Olatunde.
According to a statement by the Head of Media and Tactical Operations, SC Okadigbo Edwin, the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by the Command’s Anti-Vandalism Squad on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m. in Amansea.
Okadigbo said the squad, led by CSC Christian Nwosu, flagged down the truck on suspicion that it was carrying adulterated petroleum products. Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly accelerated toward the officers in an attempt to force his way through, nearly running them over.
The operatives chased the truck and intercepted it at the Military Checkpoint in Amansea. The statement added that the suspect also allegedly attempted to physically assault one of the officers before he was overpowered and arrested.
Further checks on the truck’s documents revealed discrepancies in the waybill presented by the driver. The NSCDC subsequently impounded the truck and its content of about 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated PMS pending further investigation.
Commandant Maku condemned the attack on NSCDC personnel, warning members of the public against obstructing or assaulting officers on lawful duty.
“Anyone found attacking personnel of the Corps while on legitimate duty will face the full weight of the law, irrespective of status,” he said.
He commended the Anti-Vandalism Squad for their vigilance and professionalism, and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations against economic sabotage in the petroleum sector.
The Commandant assured that investigations are ongoing and that those found culpable will be prosecuted.
