Kebbi Government debunks rumours of selling adulterated fertilizers to farmers

By El-Yakub Dabai, Birnin Kebbi

Kebbi State Government has described as pure imagination of noise makers and confused politicians perpetrating rumours that adulterated fertilizers were procured and distributed to farmers for the rainy season.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Mu’azu, while dismissing the rumours at a Press Briefing in Birnin Kebbi, on Thursday, told journalists that the noisy politicians were ignorant of the existence of bio organic fertilizers that differ sharply in appearance with chemical fertilizers.

“Taking into consideration that chemical fertilizers had been depleting our farmlands, the state government under comrade Nasir Idris chose to diversity its sources of farm inputs for bumper harvest. So we went for direct purchase of the organic fertilizers to preserve our farmlands and soil fertility as well as show compliance with the new world order,” Mu’azu said.

The Commissioner further stated that; “Because the opposition parties were desperate to impossibly wrestle power from the well performing Government of Comrade Nasir Idris, they resorted into fabricating lies to distract us, but we would not fall for their antics.”

He therefore urged the people of the State to disregard such information, insisting that Governor Idris was doing everything possible to supply genuine and standard fertilisers to farmers free-of-charge to enhance their revenue base and boost food security.

The three fertilizer companies engaged by State Government for the supply of the products under question included Maccat Agro Limited, Danmadami Fertilizer blending plant and Contect while Mairiga company was engaged by the Local Government Councils for the procurement of the fertilizers.
