Former Plateau State Governor Fidelis Tapgun
A former Plateau Governor, Fidelis Tapgun has advocated for return to two-party system in Nigeria.
Tapgun disclosed this while speaking with newsmen shortly after he cast his vote in Shendam, Shendam Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The former governor, who complained about the unusual size of the ballot paper, said the two-party system is the best for country.
He said there are too many political parties on the ballot paper making it difficult for voters to identify.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to work towards reducing the number to a manageable size.
“If the number of parties is not controlled the country will miss the essence of politics.
“I like what the military did during the regime of retired Gen. Ibrahim Babangida. They registered only two political parties, if you don’t want to be with one, you can join the other.
“This made people to work together and not what we are seeing today,” he said.
Tapgun who described voters’ turnout for the election as impressive, commended them for coming out to make history.
He expressed optimism that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), would emerge victorious in the general election.(NAN)
