Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered illicit drugs valued at about N6.2 million and N598,400 in cash during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, popularly known as “Onyeoma,” and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia, were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation followed intelligence on activities taking place at the location.
Items recovered during the raid included substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs, alongside the cash.
The police said the operation was carried out as part of the ongoing intelligence-led campaign to dismantle criminal hideouts and disrupt the activities of criminal elements across Anambra State.
The initiative is also in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for sustained operations against criminal networks and their operational bases nationwide.
Preliminary investigations, according to the command, indicate that the two suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs, while the location was reportedly being used as a meeting point by suspected criminals after carrying out their activities.
The police added that some of the suspected criminals fled the area after sighting the operatives.
The two arrested suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine the source of the drugs, trace their distribution network and identify other persons allegedly connected to the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Ama, assured residents that the command would sustain intelligence-driven raids, targeted operations and proactive policing to dismantle criminal hideouts and prevent criminals from establishing safe havens in the state.
He urged residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to provide the police with credible and timely information that could assist in identifying suspicious persons and preventing criminal activities.
