Senator Lalong leads national assembly joint committee on electoral matters for oversight ahead of Osun polls
The Chairman, National Assembly Joint Committee on Electoral Matters, His Excellency Distinguished Sen. Simon Bako Lalong, on Thursday 13th August 2026 led a of delegation of the Joint National Assembly Committee on Electoral Matters to an oversight visit to Osun State ahead of off-circle election.
The oversight visit is in line with provisions enshrined in Section 88 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
Members of the team comprising of Senators and House of Representatives were received by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Barr. Babalola and other National Commissioners of INEC who are in Osun for the elections.
The Chairman Distinguished Sen. Simon Bako Lalong in his remarks said the essence of the oversight is for an on-the- spot assessment of their readiness of the forthcoming election as well ascertaining any challenges the Commission may be facing in preparation for the election.
The Committee was briefed on security arrangements and deployment of sensitive material to various polling units and were assured that the Commission is fully prepared to deliver on a free, fair and credible election.
The Committee noted the issues raised and promised to activate for further legislative action.
