Bauchi LG elections: Withdrawal of opposition wouldn’t undermine legitimacy of the Process – Says Governor Mohammed

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State alongside his wife, Aisha Bala Mohammed, today cast their votes at Bakin Dutse 008 Polling Unit in Duguri, Alkaleri Local Government Area, as the 2026 Local Government Elections hold across the state.

The Governor exercised his civic rights alongside other registered voters participating in the electoral exercise.

Shortly after casting his vote, the Governor, described the conduct of the election as successful, expressing confidence in the process across the state.

He said the withdrawal of some opposition parties and candidates from the election would not undermine the legitimacy of the exercise, stressing that the process was being conducted in accordance with the relevant electoral provisions.

Governor Bala Mohammed, called on the good people of Bauchi State to remain peaceful and exercise their civic responsibilities, while urging voters to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the election.

In another development, the Chairperson of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, BASIEC, Hajiya Jummai Salamatu Abubakar, expressed confidence in the electoral process, describing it as one of the best LG elections in the State.

Hajiya Jummai made this known as she spoke to journalists after supervising the conduct of the election at some polling units across the state, saying her observations had strengthened her confidence in the process.

The BASIEC Chairperson, assured voters and other stakeholders that the Commission would continue to monitor the exercise and ensure that the election is conducted in a transparent, credible and orderly manner to the satisfaction of citizens.
